Basket-Weave Side Pony

I've only ever done what I called a criss-cross style on Khari for pigtails, but this weekend I decided to do it into a side ponytail. Everywhere else I've seen it it's been called a basket-weave style so tada.. Khari's basket-weave side pony!

When I started out I was going to do the basket-weave on both sides, but when I got to the 3 in the middle I decided to just leave the other side out (so that her ponytail wouldn't be uber thin) and I braided the remainder up to the ponytail. She loved it and kept talking about her pretty hair. I really liked the braided look and I think I will try something like that with all of the 'weaved' parts someday.

I was also very excited when I went to walgreens on Sunday to buy a razor rash cream for Dev that I heard was going to be back in stores (I hate paying for shipping, but it's the only kind that works for him), and I glanced down the hair aisle and they have started carrying more Shea Moisture products (before they only had the Deep Treatment Masque)! I was really excited. I just bought the Curl and Shine Kit (about 4 oz of each product) for 20 buck to see how I liked it. I refreashed Khari's hair after her nap with a spritz of water, a splash of the Hold and Shine Moisture Mist, and a dime sized amount of the Curl and Style Hair Milk.
I loved it. I think it smells really good and the mist did the trick on the front of her side pony that as you can see had already started to come out in the last picture. It's only been one day, but so far so good. I can't want to use this product more and try it on both kids for their wash tonight!

April Hair Carnival-Copy Cat

For this Copy Cat Hair Carnival I received Mainly Braids for inspiration. Knowing that she does alot of braided styles I'll admit I was little scared! I don't know how to cornrow or anything like that. But I found a cute style I thought I could do fairly quickly as she has MANY to choose from! I chose this Braid out with inverted ponytails style. I have done braidouts on myself before, but I haven't on Khari.  I started with spraying down and conditioning her hair. I almost forgot to do this and it was bed time so I did fairly big braids. Her hair is pretty fine so I had to use little ponytail holders on the ends to that they would just unravel.

I have never used a sleep cap with Khari because I just didn't think she would keep it on, but I thought having one on would help prevent the holders on the ends her hair from falling off as I put them in pretty loose. I was wrong, she loved wearing it so now I will be in the market for a cute childsize one just for her.
The little inverted ponytail on the sides rubberband broke so I just left it out.
Back.

In the end I thought it looked really dry so I ended up pulling it into a low side ponytail for church.

Next time I think I will try a different conditioner and a styling cream to help it from looking dry and I will do smaller braids. I do think other than the dryness it looked very cute, so I will be trying this again soon!

Check out the other ladies and their copy-cat styles from the hair carnival!

Faux-hawk re-do

So the last Saturday (the day after my first attempt at a faux-hawk) I tried it again with a different approach and I think it turned out much better!

Khari's first Faux-hawk

So today I had a random thought to try and do a faux hawk on Khari, I had about 20 minutes till I had to go to work. Lucky she had just gotten out of the shower so her hair was still wet. Khari is in the I do it! stage so I let her get in her seat and strap herself in. 3 minutes later I thought we were ready to go. I gave her some cereal and asked if she wanted milk. I made the mistake of already having the milk in my hand so she wanted me to put it back then take it out again. I then made the mistake of not closing the fridge before I took it out again. 2 minutes later I had 15 minutes to work with. So I moisturized her hair up and combed it out. Then repeat previous situation with Taiden. 3 minutes later I had about 10 minutes to work with. So I figured I would just do a quick trial one and then actually spend some time on figuring it out tomorrow. Below is the results. I don't even know what I did! I know the middle looks kind of sparse, and the back could be lower, but hey we live and we learn right? In the end I just threw some little flower clips I found at Walmart in and called it a day! I don't blog on the weekends, but come Monday I should have time to post our second try! If only I knew how to cornrow I could make the sides look so much neater! Khari moves to much for my taste and their dad convinced TK not to grow his hair back out. At the end is what his hair looked like the day I first cut it. Oh how I miss me some Taiden curls! I REGRET that decision so much!

Back

I told her to make a sad face haha.
Left Side

Back again
Left side. AGAIN.

And back again haha.

His curls were alot looser than Khari's!

Side/Back. When pulled straight his hair passed his shoulders!

Ponytail with Sidewinders

After yesterday's MESSY hair Wednesday post I figured I should post something where my child doesn't look like a rag-a-muffin! I was originally going to do something like this to see how much of a difference it would be 7 months later, but she wasn't having it and kept moving around so after the first 2 front piggys I just braided them and connected them to on ponytail. With Khari's 'shrinkage' (I've never used that word before!!), it isn't much of a ponytail, but I still think it's cute! My son brought down 2 sidewinders (That I won!!) so I stuck those in before I dashed out of the door! These pictures were taken with my IPod before I left to work so the quality is pretty horrible!

Top/front with bow I made

Back all curly and wet.

Top with Sidewinders

My little helper wanted me to take a few picutes of him so I of course obliged! He was next, but I had to run out the door so daddy was left to do his hair!

Happy Face!

Mad Face!

Sad Face?

Not Quite Wordless Wednesday

Even though this is a hair blog I need ya'll to ignore the hair for this one. My sister 'attempted' to put it in a ponytail and as it was already 6 when I got off work, we just went for a walk like it was. :-I

Crooked Piggies

Today I wanted to do a Monkey See, Monkey Do from PrincessHairstyles.com, but my nook wouldn't pull up that post and I had limited time this morning (I was still 5 mins late to work actually, but it was my fault). So instead I just did some crooked piggy's. As I've said before I'm not great with parts so I just did a crooked part (on purpose) down the middle (front to back) and then parted from ear to ear. I first put a ponytail in the top section then connected it into a piggy with the back section and repeated on the other side. I think next time I will do four on each side and have the piggies be lower on the back of her head.
